My Own Blinkie

Hello Friends,

Happy Labor Day weekend, America!

Most of you know that I am slowly recovering from yet again another ankle surgery. I felt something not right yesterday afternoon and had my son drive me to my doctor. Just what I had suspected, a stitch popped out. They were able to steri-strip the entire scar (about 5") and hopefully will hold until my doctor gets back on Tuesday, when all my stitches come out. Until then, I am resting as much as possible and not moving my foot/ankle too much. Needless to say, I got depressed because things have not been going well for me lately. I decided to keep my mind off stuff that gets me in trouble and decided it was time to play with something totally foreign to me......html and designing for the web.

I must be gaining more and more confidence while playing around with Photoshop. I used to be very good at Photoshop Elements and actually did my entire wedding album digitally (I wil share one day). Having said that, I've never actually designed anything before (dealing with html and web stuff, that is). I got the mother of all Photoshops last night.... Photoshop CS6 and decided for my first project I wanted to make my own blinkie. I spent most of the afternoon and evening playing.... deleting this, adding that, beveling, shading....and voila! A blinkie was born! What fun this was! I did forget to adjust the green color to a more soothing paler color...oh well, this is how you learn. I'll make another one with a paler green tomorrow. Soon I will be getting a revamped blog ( a really, really pretty one too!) from Valentine Designs and I thought I wanted to make a blinkie to go with my new blog. The color will change, but it's so rewarding for me that I came up with this. I would like to make these for other blogs (for a modest fee, of course!)...let me practice a bit more first! My next thing is designing my own watermark for the cards I download. I will post whenever that project is done.

Let me know how you like my new digital creation!

Encouraging Words

Hello Friends,

Today is the start of our challenge at Lady Anne's Paper Crafts . Click on the link and take the challenge. This month we are sponsored by Sweetly Scrapped and Emily is offering the winner $5 from her Etsy Shop.

My card is a sympathy card that I made for a friend of mine. I wanted to do a simple and clean design and with the help of Just Rite Stamps and Dies it turned out just the way I wanted it to.

For this card, I used white and black cardstock. Stamp set used is  Just Rite Sympathy Clear Stamps (CR-03570) , for the phrase and art deco medallion. I first stamped the medallion and then the phrase inside.  I then took the Nested Oval Medallion Labels Die and subtly colored it with chalk. It was then mounted on top of the one I had stamped to give it more of a 3D look. Also used are Elizabeth Craft Designs Glitter Elegant Swirls in transparent silver around the medallion. Ink pads used were Memento Ink in Platinum Silver and Tuxedo Black .

I learned that we all need to have words of encouragement in our craft tool box for not so happy occasions. Giving your friends or family a hand made card at their time of sorrow is always a good uplift for them and makes you feel good too. Hope you enjoyed my creation.

Until next time,

Surgery Recovery Mode

Hi all, it's been a while since I've posted. I've been going through some rough times with my ankle, fibro flares and arthitis. They come and they go....and they seem to stay longer. The doctors tell me it's stress.  It's been a week since my second ankle surgery. Doctor says I'm recovering well, but the nerves on the left side of the foot are so sensitive. It's like putting my foot in an electric socket. Hopefully, this will pass.

The good news is I've been asked to be a member of Lady Anne's Paper Crafts Design Team. I am thrilled to be on the team. Hopefully, this will open doors for me and challenge me to the fullest.Being on the design team will hopefully de-stress me by taking my mind off things I should not be thinking of and putting my energy and resources where I like to my new craft room. There are pictures of it on an earlier post....I keep re-arranging things until I am satisfied with the results. It's the way I craft. It sometimes takes me days to finish a card. Is anyone else like me? I am too much of a perfectionist and think too much. Well, let's see what I come up with on Lady Anne's Paper Crafts. The link to this website is here: Lady Anne's Paper Crafts . I hope you join and come play with us. Great challenges and prizes.

As I am writing this, please do not forget the people of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi who are in the middle of  hurricane Issac. As you may know, today is also the 7th anniversary of hurricane Katrina...what an irony. I was born in Cuba and lived a few years in Florida. I am very familiar with hurricanes. Having said that, I have never experienced a hurricane that has lasted as long as this least I can't remember. It is one the scariest moments when you hear that wind and pounding rain that lasts for hours. I can't imagine something like this lasting for days. Let's hope everyone is OK. Homes you can rebuild, lives you can't.
